It’s incredible how in 2,000 years nothing has really changed. The peak experiences, mundanity of life, and the problems of modernity are the same now as they were in Rome 2,000 years ago.
It took us humans a million years to go from fire to cities but only 10,000 to go from cities to the moon and self-driving cars. We’re still hunter-gatherers on the savannah, we’ve just been handed iPhones and VTSAX.
No wonder we feel empty and bored when we don’t have to outrun our prey every day.
