Here’s what I know about cyber security and protecting your money, accounts, and privacy online. You have to assume that every password will be eventually leaked. That’s why having unique, random, strong passwords for every account is important.
If one account is compromised, you don’t want any other account compromised. Two factor authentication (2FA) and passkeys on your mobile device also greatly enhance security. 2FA is a must for financial accounts.
- Freeze all credit reports on Experian, Transunion, and Equifax.
- Have 1 strong password you memorize for your Google or Apple account.
- Store all randomly generated, strong passwords in your Google Password Manager, Microsoft Password Manager, or Apple Keychain.
- Enable 2 factor authentication or passkeys on every account that allows it. Prefer 2FA apps like Google or Microsoft Authenticator. If SMS 2 factor is your only option, that’s okay but not preferred.
